PLC and HMI (RET305) is a 3-credit course (2 credits of theory and 1 credit of practice) offered in Semester 3 of the Bachelor of Applied Engineering in Robotics Engineering Technology programme. The course covers PLC architecture, CPU, memory, power supply, scan cycle, digital I/O and wiring, hardware configuration, compiling, simulation, downloading and online monitoring, Ladder Diagram, timers, counters, sequential control, interlocking and safety, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text, data blocks, arrays and memory management, analog I/O, scaling and PID control, HMI tags, graphics, trends and alarms, PLC–HMI communication using Ethernet/IP, PROFINET and Modbus, as well as system diagnostics and troubleshooting. Learning activities combine theory, demonstrations and CDIO-based laboratory practice.

This course develops English presentation skills for technical and engineering contexts. Students structure evidence-based presentations, design professional slides, deliver technical content confidently, handle questions, adapt messages for different audiences, and present engineering work clearly and professionally.
